22 Station Road, Cambridge
Overall view
The artist, Peter Freeman, designed a new artistic concept « Reflex » that responds to the life of Station Road and surrounding environment of new quarter CB1 in Cambridge.
Nicely integrated to the new office block architecture, the light sculpture illuminates the facade of 22 Station Road and comes into life with the movement of pedestrians passing by.
Reflex has different layered animated colour programs that change with the seasons, the movement of people and special day annual events.
11 adjustable 4060-Luminy 6 projectors, with a 10° optic illuminate the 15-meter high facade of 22 Station Road with interactive columns of animated light.
Peter Freeman : the artist statement
« The artistic aim for Reflex is to create a luminous identity for the CB1 development.
With the use of light, I wanted to create a vibrant, uplifting and colourful luminous space for the people living in or passing through Station Road.
Relfex was born from the movements of Station Road along with the seasons and special days. This will reflect a sense that the art and architecture are in tune with the passing of time and also act to surprise and engage people who regularly use Station Road reminding them of time and change. The seasons are marked with different colour signatures for Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. There is the added dimension that the lights change for special calendar events. »
