Cubitt Square in King's Cross, London
Overall view
A lighting concept that forms part of a major transformation and turns London's King's Cross district into a safe place.
This concept is based on 5 lighting columns, placed in line at the periphery of Lewis Cubitt Square. These wooden columns, approximately 13-meters tall, have 9 projectors 4040-Luminy 4 installed at the top. In total, there are 45 projectors.
The project produces a soft ambience, with three different lighting effects designed specifically for the different parts of the square:
1. Oval shapes projected by elliptical beams for relaxation areas,
2. Round shapes of different sizes projected by circular beams around the edges of the square,
3. Small round shapes projected by narrow circular beams near the fountains.
The set was developed based on a lighting scenario imagined by S+ M that varies light intensity depending on time of day and natural lighting.

General lighting to the area is provided by DMX-controlled warm white (3000 K) LED spotlights, producing a peaceful ambience at the heart of the square. To minimise glare, each LEC 4040-Luminy 4 spotlight is fitted with an anti-glare honeycomb
grille.
