Catenary LED lighting in Joséphin Soulary street, Lyon
Overall view
The City of Lyon offers a bright new face to Joséphin Soulary street in Lyon with a discreet and poetic continuous line all the way down the street. It is created with an overhead catenary LED lighting system.
The street, approximately 500 meters long, allows pedestrians to go from the Croix Rousse quarter down to the docks by the river Rhône, whilst enjoying a panoramic view on the Park Tête d'Or.
Divided in two different sections, the street is framed by high walls of houses and has uneven staircases.
This was "a major constraint to which LEC's team had to adapt in order to provide a luminaire that integrated perfectly into its environment.
It had to achieve a perfectly uniform coverage as well as recommended lighting levels on the whole length of the street." quotes Jérôme Donna, Public Lighting Department at the City of Lyon.

To up-light the street, LEC provided 48 pendent projectors 5533-Soulary equipped with 6 high power LEDs in warm white, L2 optic.
For the car transit part of the 200 meters-long street, luminaires are installed on an overhead catenary system and positionned every 8 meters all along the cable that is hung 4,5 meters-high from the ground.
For the pedestrian part of the street, long of 270-meters, luminaires have an interdistance of 10 meters between each of them and are hung at 4 meters-high from ground.
